Dubash

English captions for videos in your language

Speak Telugu, Hindi, Tamil or another Indian language. Dubash writes the English captions for your Reel, and you fix and style them before you save.

Your video never leaves this browser. No account, no upload, no ads.

The first run downloads a speech model, 190 to 539 MB, once. Dubash is free, here and on Android.

How it works

  1. Say which language is spoken, then drop in a video of up to 500 MB.
  2. Dubash reads the audio and starts the speech model. The first time, it downloads the model.
  3. The model listens and writes English captions with timings. This is the longest step.
  4. Fix words and timing, restyle the captions, then save an MP4 or a subtitle file.

Languages

Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Assamese, Nepali, Sindhi and Sanskrit. The captions always come out in English.

FAQs

Does my video get uploaded anywhere?

No. The speech model runs in your browser, so the video and the captions stay on your computer. Dubash has no accounts and no ads.

Why is there a big download the first time?

That is the speech model, the part that listens and writes the captions. It is 190 MB for Fast and 539 MB for Best. Your browser keeps it, so you only wait for it once.

Should I pick Best or Fast?

Best gets more words right, but it takes longer and is the bigger download. Fast is quicker and may miss some words. For a long video, try Fast first.

How long does it take?

It depends on your computer and on how long the video is. The screen shows how much time is left while it works, and you can cancel whenever you like.

What if a caption is wrong?

You can change the words and the timing of any caption, or delete it, before you export. The model does mishear things, so read through the captions once.

What do I get at the end?

An MP4 with the captions drawn onto the video, ready to post as a Reel, or an SRT subtitle file for YouTube or a video editor. You choose the size, position and colours of the captions.

Which browser should I use?

A browser with WebGPU, such as a recent Chrome or Edge, runs the model on the graphics card. Other browsers use a slower fallback.

Is there a limit on the video?

500 MB for now. The browser has to hold the whole video in memory while it reads the sound.
